Event Details

In 2020, Downtown On the Go is engaging in a discussion around how Tacoma is adapting to adapt to the needs of our aging population.

By the year 2030 there will be more people over the age of 60 than under the age of 18 in Pierce County. The City of Tacoma is taking on the challenge of becoming a livable community by AARP standards - that means ensuring equitable access to housing, transportation, and public space for people of all ages.

First up is Aging in Place on January 24, 2020. Hear about the unique challenges related to transportation and accessibility for older adults in securing housing situations that meet their needs.

Tanisha Jumper, City of Tacoma Government, will moderate a discussion amongst leaders and service providers in Tacoma and Pierce County on how we sustainably house our aging neighbors and community members.

January’s panelists:
- Ali Modarres of University of Washington Tacoma
- Adriane Wilson, community leader and organizer
- Matt Santelli of the Pierce County Aging and Disability Resource Center
