June 6th is recognized nationally as Higher Education Day, and Tacoma is lucky to have an incredible college campus located right here in the heart of downtown.

UW Tacoma has called Downtown Tacoma home for over 30 years, and since opening in 1990, it has awarded more than 28k degrees and certificates. The college is one of three campuses that make up the University of Washington, which was founded in 1861. The four-year public college is an urban-serving university and provides access to students in a way that transforms families and communities by offering over 50 undergraduate degree programs and options, 15 graduate programs and a variety of professional development courses and certificates.

Degrees are offered through the university’s nine schools and programs:

  • School of Education
  • School of Engineering & Technology
  • Global Honor
  • School of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences
  • Milgard School of Business
  • School of Nursing & Healthcare Leadership
  • School of Social Work & Criminal Justice
  • Undergraduate Education
  • School of Urban Studies

UW Tacoma’s campus is located along 46-acres of the southern edge of Downtown Tacoma with views overlooking glorious Mount Rainier and the Port of Tacoma. Students and faculty can enjoy being just steps away from great restaurants, exciting shops and attractions, along with incredible museums and historic architecture. The campus renovated beautiful century-old buildings that were built by businesses that depended on the Northern Pacific Railroad, which ran along campus grounds during the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. Today the historic buildings are used as modern classrooms and have received architectural awards for the transformation.

If you’ve been wanting to make your dream of college a reality, UW Tacoma is still accepting applications for freshman and transfer students for Fall 2022.
