Jordan Zehner first tried his hand at making cider 4 years ago at his home in Arizona. The hobby turned into something more when he and his father, Chris, realized that he was making cider that was better than what they could purchase at the store. It was then that Jordan reached out to Colin Schilling of Schilling Cider and offered to buy him lunch.
After a few attempts, the two eventually met and Jordan received the encouragement he needed to launch Incline Cider. The father-son pair went from 5 gallons of home-made cider to 5,500 gallons of Incline. Schilling and Zehner struck a deal to be alternating proprietors at a facility in Auburn, Washington where both Incline and Schilling are made.
If you live in Washington or Oregon there is a pretty high chance you have either drank or at least seen Incline Cider in stores. That is due in part a co-founder Chris Zehner’s more than 25 years’ experience in wine and distribution. It was Chris’s connections that landed their first product Incline Hopped Cider in Albertsons and Safeways in Oregon. Today, Incline is one of the top 5 cider companies in Washington and Oregon out of over 120 cider companies.
Recently, the Zehner family opened Incline Cider House in the new Brewery Blocks development at 2115 South C Street in Downtown Tacoma. While Incline is in the name, they also have some of their other local favorite ciders on tap, including Schilling.
How did Downtown Tacoma earn the first Incline Cider House location? A few years ago, Jordan and his wife Lesley moved to Tacoma and with all the new growth in our city saw this as the perfect place to open their first and potentially only retail business. We are glad to welcome Incline Cider House and and the Zehner family to now be a part of Downtown Tacoma.
