On New Years Eve, the Tacoma Light Trail kicked off their winter light art festival in Downtown Tacoma.

Through the use of light art and sound, the Tacoma Light Trail is dedicated to lifting up diverse voices to convey messages of hope, joy, peace, truth and justice as we move into the new year.

This week, enjoy exciting, family-friendly light parades, live entertainment, and community celebrations including:

Thursday, January 5th at 6pm: Light up your bike and ride to see The Light Trail with Downtown On The Go! Celebrate the light and the new year with a free, family friendly bike ride starting downtown at ALMA (1322 Fawcett Ave). Gather together at 6pm to decorate your bike with lights and reflectors. Free materials will be available while supplies last, and zip ties and tape provided. The ride will leave around 6:30pm.

Friday, January 6th at the Tacoma Art Museum from 6-8pm: Interactive light art, projection mapping by Permaculture Lifestyle Institute and Marcell Marias, dragon shadow puppets, community art-making, a candle labyrinth, free hot tea, and food trucks. (With rain in the forecast this weekend, this event has been moved to the covered parking lot at the Tacoma Art Museum.)

Saturday, January 7th at the Tacoma Art Museum from 6-8pm: A live Latin jazz band, the Puget Sound Revels, and TUPAC African drummers along with interactive light art, projection mapping, dragon shadow puppets, community art-making, a candle labyrinth, free hot tea, and food trucks. Next week, you won’t want to miss the Tacoma Light Trail’s downtown Lumen Concert taking place at beautiful Court House Square at the Illuminated Ballroom. Enjoy an evening of visual and auditory delight at this incredible, free and family-friendly event complete with an illuminated dancer performance as they sail on a cloud of light accompanied by electric cello and song.

In addition to the Tacoma Light Trail’s fun in-person events, the community is encouraged to explore along the light trail itself to see various installations and exhibitions throughout Downtown Tacoma. Scroll down to view the trail map or learn more here.
