Valentine’s Day is just days away! And chances are, you’re just now beginning to think about what to do and where to go. This year Valentine’s Day falls on a Monday, but whether you decide to celebrate on the exact day, weekend before, or simply sometime during the month of February, we have a few different ways that you and your someone special can choose to spend Valentine’s Day in Downtown Tacoma. From classic and romantic, to completely casual or uniquely unconventional, there is something memorable for everyone to do downtown.
Intimate & Romantic:
Get your night started with a little bubbly or a great craft cocktail at Downtown Tacoma’s new steakhouse, Stanford’s. While you’re likely a little late in the game to get a reservation for their special Valentine dinner for two, Stanford’s bar and lounge is the perfect spot to stop in to enjoy some libations before lacing up your dancing shoes and having a night on the town.
Next, head over to Studio Six Ballroom for a dance lesson where you can learn to samba, cha cha, swing, and more. The instructors at Studio Six will teach you fun and easy dance moves, and you can even arrange to take home French Macarons, spa products, and bottles of wine after your lesson from local makers.
For dinner, visit The Melting Pot to experience five courses of the best fondue in town featuring premium cheeses, delicious entrees, and of course, chocolate. The Melting Pot can even provide you and your date with red roses ready for you at your table if you inquire ahead of time.
Make a romantic getaway out of your Valentine’s Day date night and book a room at The Hotel Murano. Hotel guests will even get a special St. Valentine’s gift when booking.
Cool & Casual:
Prefer to skip the champagne, chocolates, and cliches? Enjoy a laid-back Love Day by grabbing a brew or two at Brewery Blocks where you can sip some locally made hard ciders from Incline Cider House or tasty micro-brews from Camp Colvos Brewing and 7 Seas located just up the hill.
Next, grab a relaxed bite to eat at Little Radio where their comfort food is sure to satisfy you and your date. Dig into some of their savory small bites like table bacon or chimichurri fries, or lose yourself in their drool-worthy Smashburger or Hot Nashville Chicken Sandwich. Little Radio’s menu also features carefully curated cocktails, craft beers, and hand-picked wines.
Longing for something extra memorable to do with your boo? Why not get a Valentine’s Day tattoo to commemorate the day? Head to one of the many talented studios around downtown like Destiny City Tattoo, Visualize Tattoo, Lion’s Den, Colby Dotson or Noble Studio. Some tattoo artists are even offering Valentine’s Day specials.
Finish off the night by getting your groove on at McMenamin’s Valentine’s Day Prom in the historic Spanish Ballroom. Let loose and enjoy the seven-piece band, Modern Tribe, as they play live rock, pop, and soul from 7 – 10pm.
Untraditional & Out of the Ordinary:
If you want absolutely no part in the usual trends that coincide with Valentine’s Day, Downtown Tacoma has you covered. Kick off your evening with drinks at Devil’s Reef, an elaborately themed nautical tiki and rum bar located in Opera Alley. From their amazing cocktails and small plates to their unique ambiance and detailed décor, Devil’s Reef is sure to transport you and your date to a tropical state of mind.
Following drinks, make your way across the alley to Bullseye Lane for some indoor axe throwing action. Whether you’re new to throwing axes or consider yourself an experienced lumberjack, Bullseye’s certified instructors are passionate about their craft and will make you feel at home by providing you with pointers to help you hit your target. Visitors can partake in regular axe throwing activities or switch it up with some axe throwing tic-tac-toe, connect four or zombie themed games.
When you’re feeling ready to refuel, take a walk over to Puget Sound Pizza for some of best pizza, brews, and karaoke in town. You won’t want to miss their $2.53 pints of beer on Mondays and 17 different varieties of pizzas available all the time.
Wrap up your night with some belly laughs at Tacoma Comedy Club and enjoy an evening sitting up close and personal with acclaimed comedians from across the country. Get your giggle on seeing Chris Franjola perform two shows on Valentine’s night or check out Tacoma Comedy Club’s full lineup of hilarious performers hosting shows throughout the month of February.
