Here are the top 10 moments from the past year that we’re celebrating as we look ahead to 2025 with excitement and optimism!
1. Welcoming Flatstick Pub to Downtown Tacoma
In a historic move, Flatstick Pub began construction on their first South Sound location right here in Downtown Tacoma. Nestled in the old Learning Sprout Toys space at 809 Pacific Avenue, this PNW mini golf and craft beer powerhouse is bringing its signature rule of “drink local and have fun” to our vibrant downtown. We can’t wait to see the transformation and welcome them into our community. Stay tuned for their grand opening!
2. Downtown Tacoma Block Party: Bigger and Better
This year’s Downtown Tacoma Block Party was a monumental success, drawing a crowd of over 8,000 attendees to 9th and Broadway. From live music and delicious food to mini golf pop-ups and family-friendly activities, the event celebrated Tacoma’s vibrant culture and diverse community. It’s become a signature event, and we can’t wait for next year’s celebration!
3. Managing the Downtown Tacoma Farmers Market
We took on the management of the beloved Broadway Farmers Market, bringing fresh produce, artisan goods, and vibrant energy to Downtown Tacoma every Thursday. With the addition of our dedicated market manager, Cathryn Kelly, the market has become a hub for community connection and local shopping.
4. Winning the Small Business Champion Award
We were honored to be recognized as the Small Business Champion at the Tacoma Pierce County Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting. This award underscores our commitment to supporting local businesses, fostering economic growth, and enhancing the quality of life in Downtown Tacoma.
5. 10 Impactful Community Meetings
Throughout the year, we hosted 10 community meetings that brought together downtown residents, business owners, and stakeholders to share updates, address concerns, and collaborate on solutions. These meetings continue to play a vital role in shaping the future of Downtown Tacoma.
6. Celebrating Downtown’s Best of the South Sound Winners
Downtown Tacoma businesses shone brightly in the Best of the South Sound Awards. From 7 Seas Brewing being named Best Brewery to Over The Moon Cafe winning Best Fine Dining, we are so proud of the incredible talent and dedication of our local businesses.
7. Launching Our First Downtown Tacoma Trick or Treat
Halloween was extra sweet this year as we hosted our inaugural Downtown Tacoma Trick or Treat along Antique Row. Families in festive costumes filled their bags with goodies from participating shops, creating a magical and memorable experience for all ages.
8. Reaching 10,000 Instagram Followers
Our community continues to grow, and this year we celebrated hitting 10,000 followers on Instagram! This milestone reinforces our role as a trusted source for all things Downtown Tacoma and a hub for sharing stories, events, and updates that connect us all.
9. Brewing Up a Community Connection
In celebration of International Women’s Day, our Communications & Outreach Coordinator, Gaby Kinner, co-created a special Women’s Brew Day Hazy Pale Ale with 7 Seas Brewing. This limited-release beer highlights the power of collaboration and the incredible women shaping our community.
10. Learning Together at the International Downtown Association Conference
Our team had the privilege of attending the International Downtown Association conference in Seattle. This invaluable experience allowed us to learn from global leaders in placemaking, organizational success, and community activation. We’re excited to apply these best practices to make Downtown Tacoma even better.
